October Communtiy Updates

Thank you to our entire community for the outpouring of concern, love, and thoughts over the last two weeks.

We wanted to take this time to include a special note from Jewish Silicon Valley – the non-profit organization focused on connecting, supporting, and advocating for the Jewish community in Silicon Valley that powers APJCC Los Gatos and many other of your favorite community programs.

Jewish Silicon Valley is guided by three core values: Wisdom & Character Building; Belonging, Community, & Welcoming Guests; and Respect & Social Justice.

As such, Jewish Silicon Valley is committed to providing you with fact based resources, information, and actions you can take to help you navigate the war against Hamas. Visit Jvalley.Org/Israel-Resources for our most recent information and different ways you can support, get help, and connect.

Additionally, we want our community to understand that you don’t have to be an expert (or Jewish) to share empathy.

  • It’s ok to acknowledge that you are not an expert in this field, and don’t have all (or any) of the answers.
  • Your expression of empathy and support is first and foremost what is most appreciated at this time. And, especially given the complexity, you should not feel compelled to comment on the broader Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Jewish Silicon Valley unequivocally condemns the October 7th Hamas attack on Israel and is unwavering in our support for Israel’s right to defend its citizens. Today and every day, we wish for peace and safety in the land of Israel, and happiness for all its residents. We add to our prayers the civilians of Gaza, who have suffered and will continue to suffer until this war ends.

As extremists continue to exploit this moment, we are reminded that all of our communities’ safety and futures are inextricably linked — and recommit ourselves to fighting hate in all its forms.

Jewish Silicon Valley condemns antisemitic, Islamophobic, anti-Arab, and other violence and hate that’s spreading in the U.S. and around the globe stemming from this crisis.

Find ways to support, get help, and connect via the Jewish Silicon Valley 2023 Israel Emergency Campaign – www.jvalley.org/israel-resources.

The APJCC Los Gatos team is here to provide our entire community with what we do best:

  • Creating and finding strength in community.
  • Supporting health and wellness journeys so our bodies and minds are better prepared for the roads ahead.
  • Providing a safe, clean, and fun space for our membership community and beyond.

On that note, we are honored to share that APJCC Los Gatos has been awarded the “Citizens Award” from the Los Gatos Monte-Sereno Police Department” at the annual Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Foundation Recognition Luncheon on October 19th.

This award is an important representation of the close relationship APJCC Los Gatos has built with local first responders. The Jewish Silicon Valley | APJCC Los Gatos Operations Team continues to be in close contact with our local law enforcement and security companies and are grateful for their continued partnership and support.
