Heart Health Month – February 2018

The JCC is having special fitness events for Heart Health Month throughout February 2018. Learn about all the events on our Heart Health page. And be sure to wear red on February 2 in support of National Wear Red Day for heart health awareness.

Take the Cardio Challenge!

Earn 1 Raffle ticket for every Group Fitness Cardio Class you take at the JCC in February. This includes Masters Swim, Aquafit, Healthy Heart, and all classes in Studio A. Raffle drawing takes place after February 28, and winner will receive a new heart rate monitor.

NEW! Health Heart Classes

Every Monday & Friday, 11:00am-12:00pm with JCC instructors Herb and Else in the Gymnasium. This class offers a supervised exercise program designed to promote cardiac health and wellness. FREE for Full Center Members, $15 for Social Members, $25 for non-members.

Instructor Highlight- Ellen Blumenfeld

Our instructor of the month for February is Ellen Blumenfeld!

Ellen has been teaching Yoga, Qigong, and Taiji for 15 years. She was an ICU registered nurse for several years before switching careers and devoting more time to mind/body practice and raising three children. She completed her teacher training from Triloka Living Qigong and Taiji and currently teaches group classes as well as Qigong for Cancer. She enjoys teaching students the meditative and gentle movements which increase strength, balance and suppleness as well as promoting healthy joints and organ systems. Its empowering to learn these simple exercises for physical and emotional well being, no mat required and can be practiced anywhere.

Tai Chi Class with Ellen

Date: Every Wednesday, starting February 7
Time: 4:30-5:30pm in Studio B

Tai Chi was originally developed in ancient China for self defense, and has evolved into what is sometimes referred to as meditation in motion. Working from a deep understanding of the integration of body, breath, and mind, students will learn and practice a Taiji form. These series of movements will be slow and rhythmic, helping to develop balance, strength and flexibility. Prepare to feel energized and peaceful. This class is appropriate for all levels. Free for Full Center Members. Social Members and non-members should purchase a day pass at the Service Desk ($15 Social Members, $25 non-members). Our amazing instructor Amy Gardner is teaching back-to-back STRONG by Zumba from 8:00-9:00am and Zumba 9:15-10:15am on Sunday mornings!  For more information, contact [email protected].


Teen Programs

We’re kicking off 2018 with our new Teen Fitness Program on Sundays from 3:00-4:15pm.

  • Acro Yoga on Sunday, January 7 with Jill C. & Sarah Z. in Studio B
  • Worldanz on Sunday January 14 with Kia B. in Studio A
  • Athletic Yoga on Sunday, January 21 with Lonnell G. in Studio B
  • Healthy Heart Program on Sunday, February 25. A fast-paced hike/walk followed by heart rate recovery and guided meditation.

These classes are free to JCC Full Center Members ages 13-18.
Cost for BBYO youth group members who are not Full Center Members is $5/class.
Cost for teens who are not BBYO or JCC members is $10/class.
