Need to Master the Art of Relaxation? Take a Yoga Class with Courtney!

Courtney Krishnamurthy has been practicing yoga for more than 25 years. During her first year of art school, she discovered the book, “The Sivananda Companion to Yoga.” Intrigued, she began to tinker with the various asanas (poses) in the book and dove a little deeper into the practices outlined, incorporating pranayama (breath) and meditation into her practice. From the early days of art school to her days as an online marketing professional, yoga was a constant for no other reason than “it feels good.”

There came a point in Courtney’s yoga class practice where she began to discover a new sense of clarity and quiet in her mind. Her practice became the break in her day to hit the reset button and stop all the thoughts of work and to-dos so that she could simply enjoy her evening with her husband instead of being constantly “on.” Courtney decided to get serious about understanding what was happening in her body during her practice, and from there she fell down the rabbit hole of anatomy, yoga philosophy, meditation, Ayurveda, and so much more. Courtney, ERYT-500, has completed over 1800 hours of training and is an Ayurvedic Health Counselor. She continues to be a lifelong student, discovering more about both the physiological and philosophical aspects of yoga, sound, and meditation.

Courtney’s philosophy is that the awareness developed in the practice can carry with you beyond the mat. The techniques and teachings she shares become part of the rhythm of your day, elevating your ability to manipulate your energy, manage your attachment to outcome, and empower you to hear and trust your own inner guidance.

Stretch with Courtney

Courtney’s favorite yoga pose is the Extended Triangle pose (or Triangle). She says it is her favorite pose because it is a great lateral stretch. We do not get the opportunity to do much lateral stretching in our day-to-day lives and could really benefit from more. This pose provides amazing benefits for the lower body, as well as the torso. The best part about this pose is that it can be done almost anywhere! With how busy and stressful life can get, we can all benefit from taking Courtney’s advice and adding some stretches like this to our schedules.
