Preschool Classes By Age

The APJCC Preschool is a developmental, child-centered, play-based school.

Teaching Staff

Our teachers and assistant teachers have credentials and/or training in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and participate in ongoing, on-site ECE workshops and staff meetings as well as attending professional conferences. Members of the preschool staff are dedicated to and believe in the quality of our school. Our staff goal is to provide a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for all of the preschool children while recognizing children for their individuality.

Pa’otoon Group with the Barvazim (Ducks) and Keshet (Rainbow) Classes

(children at least 18 months old at the start of the school year)

Our Barvazim and Keshet program is designed to provide our youngest children a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment in which to explore and grow. Toddlers will be given loving attention from our caring staff and opportunity to widen their circle of peers and trusted adults. Older children in this group will be placed in the Keshet class. Maximum child/teacher ratio is 4:1. This class is 5, 3, or 2 days per week, mornings (8:30am-12:00 noon) or full days (8:30am-6:00pm).

Shovavim Group with the Dubonim (Teddy Bears), D’vorim (Bees), and Shemesh (Sun) Classes

(children aged 2 by September 1)

Children in our Dubonim, D’vorim, and Shemesh programs will have the opportunity to experience a variety of developmentally stimulating activities while at the same time learning to interact with their peers and teachers. Younger children in this age group may be placed in our Transitional 2’s, Keshet class. Maximum child/teacher ratio is 6:1. These classes are 2, 3, or 5 mornings per week (8:30am-12:00 noon).

G’dolim Group with Parparim (Butterflies), Kochavim (Stars) and Tzabim (Turtles) Classes

(children aged 3 by September 1)

Children in our Parparim, Kochavim, and Tzabim programs will be involved in activities that promote their social skills, gross and  fine motor skills, self regulation skills, and self-help skills. Maximum child/teacher ratio is 8:1. These classes are 3 or 5 mornings per week (8:30am-12:00 noon).

Bogreem Group with Perach (Flower) and Shamayim (Sky) Classes

(children aged 4 by September 1)

Our Perach and Shamayim program offers activities designed to promote self-confidence, tune gross and fine motor skills, and help articulate social, self regulation, self help, and listening skills for pre-K aged children. Our extended morning pre-K program offers the same quality activities as our 4-year-old half-day program with additional time for projects in depth. Our 4- year- old program is designed to stimulate and enhance the developmental growth of the 4 to 5-year-old child. Maximum child/teacher ratio is 9:1. This class meets 5 mornings per week. (8:30am-12:00noon) or 5 extended mornings (8:30am-1:30pm).

Ma’avar (Passage) Transitional Kindergarten

(children aged 5 by January 31)

This program provides older 4 and younger 5 year olds with a transitional kindergarten experience that is rich in pre-literacy, science and math while being true to our play-based philosophy. Special attention will be made to integrating STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) activities into the everyday fabric of the class. Maximum child/teacher ratio is 9:1. This class is 5 extended mornings per week (8:30am to 1:30pm).

Kif Kef (Extended Care)

Kif Kef means “extra fun” in Hebrew. Our Kif Kef program offers the same quality program meeting the needs of families for an extended day. Kif Kef is available from 7:30-8:30am and 12:00 noon-6:00pm. Children attending Kif Kef must also be enrolled in our Shemesh, Dubonim, Parparim, Kochavim, Tzabim, D’vorim, Perach, Shamayim, or Ma’avar classes. For more information, see the Kif Kef page.


The Preschool Director and teachers may make class placement exceptions for children, if they determine that the exception is developmentally appropriate. Final class placement will be made by the Preschool Director and Staff.
