Build strength and flexibility that will empower you. Learn about your body, names of your muscles and bones and why it’s important to be active and eat healthy on a daily basis. Participate in fun activities, games and obstacle courses that energize and prepare you to take on your day. There is also a new sign language word to learn and use with each lesson. Students of all skill levels are welcomed into chess class. New and beginning players will learn the fundamentals of chess, while experienced students will be taught according to their needs. Get introduced to Python and block coding with fun online activities. We’ll use Scratch, Codecombat, and Tynker to make coding engaging and easy. With instructors from Mind Games Academy.

This class promotes imagination, creativity, and art production. We’ll explore formal concerns of composition, materials, and scale, as well as issues related to content, meaning, and interpretation, and their application to both words and images. We’ll begin by making smaller works and progress toward larger, more complex individual projects. Work with wide range of materials (clay, wood blocks, cardboards, found objects, discarded materials). We’ll also explore works by sculptors including Louise Nevelson, Suzanne Duchamp, and other contemporary artists pushing the boundaries.

Fencing for beginners! Learn proper fencing form and technique, footwork, bladework, distance control, introduction to fencing rules, safety rules, fencing etiquette and sportsmanship. Taught by coaches from the Academy of Fencing Masters. Please wear athletic clothing and footwear. We will provide the fencing equipment.

Classes are divided by age. Grades 1-4 meet at 3:45pm, and grades 5-8 meet at 4:45pm.

Students will learn math, critical thinking, problem solving, and teamwork through games like Dungeons & Dragons, Machi Koro, Onitama, and many others. Dungeons & Dragons is our primary focus, but other games will be introduced to challenge preconceptions of what a board game is, and can be. All of our board games rely heavily on critical thinking and strategy. With instructors from Mind Games Academy.

Students will be given the opportunity to express their own personal style or direction in making magical trees.  Expect to have a fun-filled 2 hour painting experience!

The instructor is John Giannotti, vice president of the Los Gatos Art Association and an accomplished painter.

Ages: Recommended for kids in 2nd grade and up.

Date & Time: Tuesday, January 15, 4:30-6:30pm

Fee: $22 per child. All materials will be provided. This workshop is open to the public — you don’t need to be a JCC member to attend.

Mini Camps are offered on dates when local schools are closed for a day or two. Come hang out in the JCC’s youth lounge, Club J, for a fun-filled day of supervised activities. Full day (9:00am-3:30pm) and half-day (9:00am-12:30pm) options are available, as well as extended care (8:00-9:00am and 3:30-6:00pm). Cost for a full day is $75 CM/SM, $97.50 NM. Let’s play the ukulele and learn your favorite song! This is a beginner’s class. Focus will be on learning basic skills and techniques for the instrument. No previous musical knowledge is required. Please bring your own ukulele.

Children ages 10-15 years old can learn to use the Fitness Center in a safe and effective manner through this 5 session program. (For children 10-12, this program is REQUIRED in order to be admitted to the Fitness Center. After completing the program, children can work out with parental supervision. Children ages 13-15 can also benefit from this program, but it’s not required.)

During the first four sessions, your child will learn about different components of exercise including flexibility, cardiovascular, strength training, balance and core training, and safe use of the equipment. During the fifth, individually scheduled session, they will be taken through a practical examination with the instructor.

Dates and times are based on participant request and instructor availability. Rates are $200 for Full Center Members, $250 for Social Members or non-members.
