Our Russian Language programming is run by Rabbi Ilana Baird. Rabbi Ilana has served Jewish communities in Russia, Germany, Israel, and the United States.  She founded a liberal synagogue in Haifa and is a graduate of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion’s Israeli Rabbinical Seminary program. A Musical Journey with Hannah Tarley

Violinist Hanna Tarley, along with her accompanying pianist Elizabeth Dorman, are coming to perform for you at the JCC! They’ll bring with them a wide repertoire of classical masterpieces, among which you will recognize the following composers: C. Franck, W. A. Mozart, J. Harbison, J. S. Bach and others. Movie Club with Boris Vladimirsky

Take this opportunity to delve deeper into the world of film by participating in our ‘movie club’ program led by Boris Vladimirsky- Theater and Film critic, essayist, lecturer and one of the founders of the literature museum in Odessa. Enjoy watching and discussing films in Russian. General admission $15, seniors $10.

Family Camping

Our fourth annual camping trip for HEDER and Club Noar families and the rest of the Russian-Speaking Jewish Community is coming! It’s our traditional third weekend of May!

Get ready for music, dancing, art, bonfire, delicious s’mores, stories, games, rock climbing, mafia game and so much more! Package includes one night and three meals. Cary Lodge, a beautiful two-story building, offers overnight accommodations in three or four-person rooms. Will have some larger rooms for friends to share as well. Food is kosher-style and delicious!

In order to have a successful retreat, we rely on parental volunteers as usual! So please let us know if you can help and how!

Ongoing Classes:

HEDER, for children 4-9 years old

HEDER – (Hebrew Educational Extracurricular program for Russian-speaking kids) is a program designed to acquaint your children with the Jewish Culture and the Hebrew Language in an engaging learn-through-play format. The program is intended for children aged 4 -9 (split into two age groups: 4-6 years and 7-9 years) and will be conducted in Russian. We welcome, and encourage, parents to volunteer.  Additionally, as part of our program, we will celebrate Shabbat and Holidays together, inviting the community to join us in the festivities.

Please note, if your child would like to join the program in the middle of the year, we can prorate the cost to cover the remaining sessions. Contact [email protected] for more information.

Club Noar — our youth club for children ages 10 to 12

Children from Russian-speaking Jewish families will get together and will have interesting discussions, debates, various projects and lots of fun. The program is held in English. The program is led by Rabbi Ilana Baird.

Drop-ins welcome! (For Club Noar only, not for Heder.) Drop-in fee is $25 per day.

The Club Noar January session will revolve around an epic quest in a fantastical world of Clues, Monsters and Adventures! A planned outdoors activity to discover and learn all the hidden Clues about the secret of Tu Bishvat – one of the most mysterious Jewish holidays!

We meet once a month on Sundays. Upcoming dates:

Weekly Torah Study in Russian

Tuesdays from 10:00am-11:30am .  No class January 29.
Come drink tea and enjoy learning Torah with Rabbi Ilana Baird.  All ages and knowledge backgrounds are welcome.
