Club Noar October Session: My Shtetl and Marc Chagall

October 21, 10:30 am – 12:30pm
You are invited to join our special October Club Noar session for children 10-13 years old, “My Shtetl.” We will learn about the small towns of Eastern Europe where our great grandparents used to live. In this hands-on class we will try to imagine how shtetls looked and what lifestyles the Jews had there. We will look at Marc Chagall’s art and will find out about his childhood and his hometown. Let’s dive into drawing, crafts and design and build a model of a shtetl of our own! The class will be led by architect and educator Dina Lagun.

Dina Lagun grew up in Moscow, Russia where she obtained her degree in architecture in 2007. Since then she has specialized primarily in reconstruction of historical buildings and design of residential and educational facilities. Upon moving to the US in 2009, she began working as a freelance architect. At the same time she has devoted most of her time to child education. While living in Atlanta, Georgia, Dina taught a design and architecture class at the local school co-op and organized Jewish holiday celebrations for young children in the local Jewish community for Russian speakers. Implementing her passion for art and education, Dina volunteers for various art projects for adults and children. She relocated to San Jose in 2014, when her husband became a research scientist at one of the hi-tech companies in the area. In 2018 Dina received an award for first place in the architectural competition, “Reconstruction of a Moscow apartment in the Jewish style”.
