Reopening After the COVID-19 Shutdown
Planning for the JCC to Reopen
The JCC building has been closed since March under the County of Santa Clara’s shelter-in-place order. We’ve moved many programs online (see the JCC Virtual Experience page) and are looking forward to reopening when the county says it’s permissible.
Here are the answers to some of the questions we’ve been asked recently:
- When will the swimming pool and tennis courts open?
The big news is that we’re opening the pool and tennis on June 15!
The county recently announced that swimming pools and some other recreational outdoor activities, like tennis, can reopen. We’re still waiting for some supplies to arrive and will be ready to welcome JCC members back for swimming and tennis on Monday, June 15. In phase one of our reopening, the pool and tennis will be available for JCC members only, with advance reservations required. Hours will be 8:00am-6:00pm daily. There will be specific times for lap swimming and recreational swimming. We will not be resuming Aqua Fit classes, swim team or swim lessons yet. We’ll send out more details in an email to members next week (the week of June 8) including how to register for a time slot, what to bring (and not bring) with you, and new campus policies related to COVID-19. Thank you for your patience in waiting to hear more details. We will post answers next week.
- Is the pool water safe?
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), chlorine kills COVID-19, so pool water should be safe.
- When will the JCC building and fitness center open?
We plan to open the fitness center on July 15. Currently all fitness centers are closed under the county’s shelter-in-place order. But we are moving ahead with a comprehensive plan for a safe reopening and are preparing so that we’ll have everything ready and set up properly for reopening on July 15 if the county allows.
- Are you going to open summer camp?
Summer camp for preschoolers and rising kindergarteners will start July 20, and it will be in person, in small groups.
We are currently evaluating the feasibility of running in-person summer camp for 1st-8th graders under the current Health Department guidelines, and will make an announcement soon.
- Are you going to open preschool?
At this time, we expect to open preschool in the fall, depending on what the county allows.
Many JCC services and classes are now available online. See the JCC Virtual Experience page for details.
